Crafted in Tradition, Rooted in Innovation

OsuVitae is a spirited fusion of Nordic craftsmanship and African inspiration. Named from the Latin aqua vitae (water of life) and the Akan word nsu (water), OsuVitae celebrates the meeting of two worlds—Northern Europe and West Africa—in a glass. OsuVitae is a Taffel Akvavit, the iconic, clear Scandinavian spirit with a clean, pure taste. Known for its caraway-forward profile, it brings fresh, bold flavors that capture the essence of its natural botanicals without the distortion of cask aging.

For the Bold and Curious

OsuVitae is crafted for those who seek adventure, those who appreciate craft spirits with heritage, and those who enjoy the story in every sip. It’s traditionally enjoyed straight, but its distinct herbaceous notes have captivated the world of mixology, where bartenders are embracing akvavit for inventive cocktails that combine history with modern flair.

A Fusion of Minds and Flavors

The creation of OsuVitae is the result of an extraordinary partnership between Ogojiii, a Pan-African design magazine, and Bornholm Distillery, a small-batch distillery on Denmark’s Baltic Island of Bornholm. Ogojiii believes that visionary leadership thrives on creativity and that design has the power to shape a brighter future by unlocking African ingenuity. With OsuVitae, they bring that philosophy to life in a way that’s bold and fresh, much like the spirit itself.

Bornholm Distillery is committed to reviving and perfecting traditional Scandinavian spirits with a modern edge. Together, they’ve created a unique hybrid spirit that marries classic Nordic distilling techniques with the vibrant flavors of West Africa.

Botanicals that Tell a Story

OsuVitae’s flavor profile is rooted in tradition yet daringly new with a selection of West African botanicals that are as rich in history as they are in taste

Baobab Fruit

Known as the “Tree of Life,” the baobab is revered across Africa for its resilience and the nutrition it provides. Its citrus tang and subtle tamarind depth add a layer of complexity to OsuVitae.

Calabash Nutmeg

Spicy and aromatic, calabash nutmeg (or ehuru) lends warmth and a hint of tropical spice. Traditionally used as a nutmeg substitute in West Africa, it adds a distinctive edge to OsuVitae’s profile.

Alligator Pepper

Pungent and peppery, this West African spice imparts a lively aroma and a vibrant kick. Often used in traditional rituals and cuisines, it infuses OsuVitae with a taste that’s unmistakably afropolitan.

Kola Nut

Famous for its caffeine content, kola nut adds a unique bitter complexity, evoking the same energy and zest that has made it a staple in African cultures for centuries. Its influence is felt in every sip, energizing the palate.

Palm Jaggery

Derived from the sap of wild palms, this subtly sweet ingredient has a rich history in West African refinement, including the crafting of palm wine. It brings a smooth, rounded sweetness that balances the spirit’s herbal intensity.

A Celebration of Heritage and Craft

OsuVitae combines two continents’ traditions in a spirit that’s equal parts celebration and exploration. From the deep-rooted history of Nordic akvavit to the vibrant heritage of West African botanicals, OsuVitae is a drink that invites you to raise a glass to the stories that connect us all.
